How to Have an Eco-Easter With B Corp Brands

As part of the B Corp movement and in spirit of B Corp month, we want to do a shout out to our fellow B Corp comrades for that time of year that is full of chocolate, eggs and family!

Reusable & Recyclable Packaging

Easter eggs are one of the most exciting things about the holiday season, however they can be harmful to our beloved planet. The excessive packaging of Easter eggs, particularly plastic, can have a huge impact. It's time to start thinking about the environment while indulging in our favourite Easter treats. It’s better to ditch those eggs that come with layers and layers of plastic, and instead opt for ones with minimal packaging. Not only is this better for the planet, but it also means more delicious chocolate for us!

For example, a fellow B Corp brand, Better Packaging Co, makes the most sustainable packaging materials and designs available and affordable to businesses of all sizes. They are a team of passionate individuals determined to improve the state of the environment by designing revolutionary, customised packaging solutions for the new eco-nomy – a circular economy in which generating waste is not an option and the earth’s resources are not treated as infinite.

When choosing which chocolate brands to go for, it's important to think sustainably. Eco-friendly and B Corp options like Tonys Chocolonley, are the way to go! Their big bar wrappers are uncoated, FSC-certified recycled. No china, clay or chalk was used in its production, and the materials that go into it are 100% recyclable.

TIP: The ‘foil scrunch’ test - if it can be easily scrunched up, it can be recycled. Let's make this Easter an environmentally friendly one!

How We Do It:

We work closely with our supply chains, actively influencing how they package their furniture in a bid to diminish our furniture footprint. Our ambition is to supply 100% of product packaging that is reusable or ‘widely recyclable’ and we will focus on the ranges and business areas where we feel we can most impact initially.

In the meantime, our fantastic Logistics team remove all packaging and waste when installing, separating the recyclable materials, and keeping hold of those all-important reusable bags.

Organic/Fair Trade Chocolate & Eggs

As we gear up for Easter, it's important to think about the type of chocolate and eggs we consume. Organic and Fair Trade chocolate options are a great way to ensure that the money we spend goes to a good cause. These types of chocolate are made from cocoa beans that haven't been sprayed with pesticides, meaning they're better for the environment and for farmers who receive fair pay for their work.

Not only that, but organic and fair trade chocolate is also healthier, as they contain fewer chemicals and more natural ingredients. So why not opt for chocolate that not only tastes great but also supports a good cause? For example, Valrhona Chocolate, Valrhona joined the B Corporation® movement with the aim of creating both a fairer and more sustainable cocoa industry and an approach to gastronomy which utilizes good-looking, great tasting food to make the world a better place. To do this, they embed major societal and environmental concerns within their strategy, including fair income for producers, access to education and new initiatives to address the environmental crisis.

TIP: When it comes to eggshells, instead of throwing them away, they can be composted! It's a great way to reduce waste and give back to the environment.

Shop Boutique & Local

As Easter approaches, it's time to start thinking about the holiday feast, gifts, and outfits for the little ones. One way to make this Easter special is by choosing to shop locally. Instead of heading to big supermarkets, consider supporting your local green grocers for all your vegetable needs and local butchers for your Easter roast. Not only does shopping locally reduce your carbon footprint by reducing transportation emissions, but it also supports small businesses in your community, which helps your local economy.

When it comes to Easter treats and gifts, try sourcing them from local boutiques and small businesses. You may be surprised at the unique and high-quality items you can find that you wouldn't find in bigger stores. And let's not forget about kids' Easter outfits. Instead of buying new clothes, consider checking out charity shops or online thrifts. Not only is this more sustainable, but it's also a great way to give back to your community while also saving money. Or, if you do fancy treating your little one to a new Easter get up, shopping at environmentally conscious clothing brands, like fellow B Corp, Jojo Mama BeBe. They value their people and championed environmental practices alongside profit. They pledge to be a better employer, put their customer first, be better in business, be a better asset to local communities and be better preservers of the planet. And if you fancy treating yourself, Wolf & Badger is a great sustainable option. They are on a mission to make retail fair and drive a better future for all. Their initiative involves asking brands on the Wolf & Badger platform to work towards certain values, and to offer transparency over their production processes in order to be awarded the attributes relevant to their business ethics.

TIP: Visit online thrift stores like ThredUp for convience!

So let's make this Easter a special one by supporting our local businesses and making environmentally friendly choices.
